Eating & Drinking
While Bratwurst, Schnitzel, and Döner kebab are certainly amongst Germany's culinary trademarks, the scope of the country’s gastronomic offerings are actually a lot more varied than people tend to think.
Most all German cities possess ethnic cuisine in one shape or another, from Thai to Japanese. Of course that’s not to say that visitors should fully indulge in Deutschland’s characteristically hearty cuisine, from potato salad to blood sausage. When in the city of Hamburg, be sure to visit the fishing port. The city's exposed port is a haven for some of the best catches in the country. The fish market, held in Saint Pauli early Sunday mornings, is a great place to haggle for fresh fish.
Travelers who find yourself in the famous Bundaslander of Bavaria, or land of the lederhosen, will encounter some of Germany’s more traditional culinary fares from Weißwurst, eaten with sweet mustard, to fresh Bretzel.
